NightjarNocturnal Birds & Bat Evening

As part of Wales Biodiversity Week BWHEG volunteers will be recording bats and nocturnal birds in the Blaenavon Community Woodland.

After driving to Llanover Road at dusk they will look and listen for the mysterious Nightjars emerging from the woods to hunt over the moor, as well as owls and other birds.

The volunteers will be using acoustic bat detectors to convert their ultrasound echolocation calls to ones that can be heard and, with the aid of state-of-the-art technology, identify automatically.

Pipistrelle Bat

Suitable for all, the event will involve a little walking on the road.
Bring binoculars if you have them. Bat detectors will be made available.
Please note that the activity will be cancelled in the event of wet or very windy weather.

This activity is child friendly with an “easy” exertion level.
No dogs on this event.
